The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to appoint renowned power-hitting specialist Julian Wood as a consultant ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on 9 September in the UAE.

Wood, widely credited for revolutionising England’s white-ball approach with his power-hitting techniques, is expected to work with Bangladesh’s players for three weeks. He confirmed that he will join the team shortly before the pre-tournament preparation camp.

The former England domestic cricketer has previously conducted high-intensity workshops with players preparing for major T20 leagues, including the IPL, BBL, CPL, and more. His client list features elite names such as Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Prithvi Shaw, Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan, and Sam Billings. Wood has also worked with Sri Lankan cricketers earlier this year and has experience with Bangladeshi players during his stint in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“We’re hoping he arrives before the start of the Asia Cup training camp,” a senior BCB official confirmed to Cricbuzz on Saturday.

Speaking on the development, Wood said, “Yes, I’ve spoken to Simmo (Phil Simmons). I’m supposed to be there for three weeks in August, though it’s not fully confirmed yet. But it looks more than likely. I’ll be in Dhaka before the Asia Cup begins.”

He added, “There’s a lot of talent in Bangladesh. Striking the ball well is a crucial part of white-ball cricket now, and that’s where I can help.”

In a related development, it is also understood that David Scott, who previously worked with Bangladesh’s High Performance Unit, is likely to be appointed as the team’s sports psychologist.
