After the Pahalgam attack in April this year, tensions between India and Pakistan are very high. In the midst of the mounting tensions between the two countries, the schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates was announced. Within minutes of the announcement, there was a huge backlash from the Indian fans, asking the Board of Control for Cricket in India to withdraw from the tournament.

Shreevats Goswami, the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Bengal cricketer, had this to say on the developing situation. “My reading on the Asia Cup going forward is that India must forfeit the game against Pakistan and let them qualify. We don’t need to win the Asia Cup,” he wrote on ‘X’.

“The only reason India is participating is because it helps other nations economically, or else I don’t see any reason. Ideally, this is what should and must happen. And if India decides to play against Pakistan, it will make the nation angry, it should!”

In the Asia Cup, India are scheduled to lock horns with Pakistan on September 14. They are also slated to take on Pakistan in the Super 4 stage. Potentially, both teams could also play against each other in the summit clash.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing World Championship of Legends, Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan and Co. decided to boycott the game against Pakistan Champions. Eventually, the India-Pakistan match was canceled by the organisers. It further encapsulates the point about the volatile situation that exists between the two countries.
