India’s star all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been named as the captain of the West Zone for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025 starting in September. The 15-member squad includes big names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Shreyas Iyer, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Harvik Desai and Saurabh Nawale have been named the wicket-keepers. Experienced players like Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, however, were not included in the squad this time.
However, this time around, the Duleep Trophy will be contested in the zonal format. Both the South Zone and the West secured direct entries to the semifinals to be held in Bengaluru. The last time the tournament was held in zonal format in 2023-24, the South Zone were the winners.

The meeting was organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap on August 1, 2025.
