The ongoing fifth and final Test between India and England at The Oval witnessed some tense moments on Day 2, including a fiery exchange between Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root, which escalated into a separate confrontation between KL Rahul and on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena.

It all began in the 22nd over of England’s innings when Prasidh exchanged a few words with Root after the England batter struck him for a boundary. Root, usually known for his composure, walked towards Prasidh, visibly frustrated. The situation required immediate intervention from on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Kumar Dharmasena.

Shortly afterwards, Rahul approached Dharmasena to question the handling of the incident and stood up for his teammate. The conversation quickly became heated. Rahul asked, “What do you want us to do? Be quiet?” to which Dharmasena responded, “Would you like any bowler to come and walk up to you? No, you can’t do that. No, Rahul, we shouldn’t go down that path.”

However, Rahul did not back down and replied, “What do you want us to do? Just bat and bowl and go home?” Dharmasena concluded the exchange by saying, “We will discuss it at the end of the match. You can’t talk like that.”

After conceding plenty of runs in the first session, India mounted a strong fightback after lunch. Prasidh and Mohammed Siraj bowled superb spells that triggered a collapse. The hosts went from 129/2 to 235/8 at tea, having earlier bowled India out for 224.
