Former Team India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has praised Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna for their four-wicket hauls against England in the ongoing fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval.
Siraj was lethal on Day Two against England, taking the important wickets of England captain Ollie Pope, world No. 1 Test batter Joe Root, Jacob Bethell, and Harry Brook. Meanwhile, Krishna dismissed Zak Crawley, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, and Gus Atkinson. Siraj bowled 16.2 overs and picked up 4/86, while Krishna bowled 16 overs and took 4/62. Akash Deep took the first wicket to fall in the England innings, removing Ben Duckett.
Irfan wrote in a post on X: “When you give the responsibility of leading the pack to Mohammed Siraj, he delivers differently. And those four wickets will do a world of good to Prasidh Krishna.”
Siraj also completed 200 wickets in international cricket. In 101 matches, he has taken 203 wickets at an average of 28.94, with best figures of 6/15.
He is also the highest wicket-taker in the series, with 18 wickets in five matches — and one innings still left. When he took his fourth wicket in the innings, he surpassed Ben Stokes, who had been excellent in this series.
England started their innings aggressively, but India made a strong comeback. Though England managed a slender lead of 23 runs, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made sure that India finished the day on a strong note. At the end of Day Two, India were 75/2 with Jaiswal batting on 51.
