
41-year-old AB de Villiers stole the show in the final of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 in Birmingham as he smashed an unbeaten 120 off just 60 balls. His knock guided the South Africa Champions to a stunning nine-wicket win over the Pakistan Champions. He came in as an Impact Sub and didn’t even field due to a hamstring injury. But de Villiers came out to bat and completely changed the game.
Chasing 196 runs, South Africa lost Hashim Amla early, but AB de Villiers and Jean-Paul Duminy (50* off 28) made the target look easy. De Villiers’ knock included 12 boundaries and seven maximums at a strike rate of 200. His destructive batting helped South Africa reach 197/1 in just 16.5 overs, sealing their maiden WCL title with 19 balls to spare. Saeed Ajmal was the only bowler to take a wicket.
Earlier, Pakistan Champions posted a competitive total of 195/5. Sharjeel Khan played a fiery knock of 76 off 44 balls, while Umar Amin (36 off 19) and Asif Ali (28 off 15) added quick runs in the final overs. Hardus Viljoen and Wayne Parnell took two wickets each, while Duanne Olivier also chipped in with one.
AB de Villiers’ jaw-dropping knock earned him the Player of the Match award. He also won the Player of the Series award for his unbelievable consistency throughout the tournament. He scored 431 runs in 6 innings at an average of 143.67 and a strike rate of 221.02, including three centuries and a half-century. He finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer.
