Pakistan T20I captain Salman Agha said that his team is ready for the upcoming Asia Cup, which begins on September 9 in the UAE. The tournament will follow the T20I format and will feature teams including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong.
Pakistan, who recently lost by two wickets in the second T20I against the West Indies, have still sent a strong message ahead of the tournament.
Speaking during the post-match presentation after the loss to West Indies, Agha conveyed the team’s confidence. “The way spinners bowled in both games, I think we’re ready for the Asia Cup. They always come in numbers and support us wherever we play,” Agha said.
So far in the ongoing three-match T20I series against the West Indies, Pakistan’s batting performance has been relatively average, while the bowlers have performed well, consistently picking up wickets. Agha acknowledged that the 130-run target in the second game left room for improvement.
“In this game, we didn’t bat well in the powerplay and couldn’t finish the game like we wanted either. But we bowled and fielded well. There’s always room to improve — death bowling can be better. 130 was never enough, but they fought really well,” he added.
For the Asia Cup, the eight participating teams are divided into two groups. Group A includes India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B features Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. The tournament will kick off with a match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong on September 9 in Abu Dhabi.
