As the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy moves into the last and final day of the ongoing Oval Test, all eyes are on India — whether they can pull off a miracle by claiming all four remaining wickets, or if England score the remaining 35 runs to win the series 3-1.
But before the decisive day, England’s second-highest wicket-taker ever in Test matches, Stuart Broad, shared his favourite moment from the series. Interestingly, it turned out to be from the Lord’s Test, where Ben Stokes earned the Player of the Match award.
“My favourite moment from the series was when Washington Sundar, in an interview before batting, said that ‘India would definitely win this Test’,” said Stuart Broad on Sky Sports. “Washington Sundar chipped one back to Jofra Archer, beautiful catch, and he went back for zero. It did make me smile,” he added. It seemed a cheeky dig at the Indian all-rounder from the former England pacer.
What actually happened was that after the stumps on Day Four at Lord’s, India were 58/4 and needed 135 runs on Day Five with six wickets in hand on a tricky surface. While speaking to Sky Sports at the end of the day’s play, Sundar sounded positive and confident about India’s chances. “Definitely, India (are) winning tomorrow. Probably just after Lunch,” he said.
But unfortunately, Sundar’s prediction went completely wrong as India eventually got bundled out for 170, losing the match by 22 runs despite a gritty late fight from Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj. Sundar himself failed to shine with the bat, falling for a four-ball duck.
