Former India captain Virat Kohli congratulated the Shubman Gill-led side on their thrilling six-run win over England at the Oval, which helped India level the series. He also gave special mention to Mohammed Siraj, who was named Player of the Match.

With just 35 runs to defend on Day 5, India needed four more wickets to pull off a stunning win. Siraj removed both overnight batters, Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton, before claiming the final wicket of Gus Atkinson, completing his five-wicket haul and sealing the victory. As it was India’s narrowest win by margin of runs in Test cricket, Kohli—like many other Indian supporters—couldn’t hold back his joy. The talismanic batter applauded India’s fighting spirit and highlighted the match-winning efforts of the bowlers, particularly Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.

“Great win by Team India. Resilience and determination from Siraj and Prasidh has given us this phenomenal victory. Special mention to Siraj, who will put everything on the line for the team. Extremely happy for him,” Kohli wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

India were defending a target of 374 runs in the fourth innings of the Test, and it was the bowling pair of Siraj and Prasidh who turned the momentum in India’s favour. Siraj finished the match with a nine-wicket haul and ended the series as the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets. Prasidh also impressed, picking up four wickets in each innings.

With the bat, India posted 224 in the first innings and came back strongly with 396 in the second. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a composed 118, while Akash Deep and Washington Sundar contributed with vital half-centuries.
