Bengaluru FC, one of the most consistent performers in Indian football, have announced an indefinite suspension of salaries for its first team players and staff, citing growing uncertainty over the future of the Indian Super League.
In an official statement, the club said it was a “very difficult decision,” but one made necessary by the lack of clarity surrounding the upcoming ISL campaign. “Running and sustaining a football club in India has always been an uphill climb,” the club noted. “However, the current impasse leaves us with no choice.”
The decision, however, does not impact BFC’s youth teams — both men’s and women’s — or the BFC Soccer Schools, which will continue operations as scheduled.
While reiterating its commitment to developing football at the grassroots and youth levels, the club has also urged the All India Football Federation and Football Sports Development Limited to provide a swift resolution. “The uncertainty benefits no one, and a prompt resolution is vital for the future of Indian football,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, AIFF officials are scheduled to meet with CEOs of eight ISL clubs on Thursday, August 7, in New Delhi. The high-level meeting aims to address concerns around the league’s structure, scheduling, and financial sustainability, amidst growing calls for clarity from stakeholders.
The coming week may prove pivotal in determining the course of the 2025-26 ISL season.
