With the Asia Cup fast approaching, Bangladesh will host the Netherlands for a three-match T20I series as part of their preparations. On Monday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released the revised schedule for the series, which has undergone a few changes from its original plan.
Initially, Bangladesh was slated to host India for both ODI and T20I matches. However, after that tour was indefinitely postponed, the BCB opted to make use of the window by inviting the Netherlands instead.
The Dutch side was originally expected to arrive in mid-August, with the series scheduled to begin on August 19. That timeline has since been adjusted. Under the updated itinerary, the Netherlands will now arrive in Bangladesh on August 26, and the T20I series will kick off on August 30. The second and third matches will take place on September 1 and 3, respectively.
All three games will be held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The BCB selected Sylhet because its pitch conditions closely resemble those in Abu Dhabi, where Bangladesh will play all of their group-stage matches in the Asia Cup.
“We can’t replicate foreign wickets exactly. But among the options available, Sylhet offers the best batting surface,” a BCB official explained. “T20s demand good scoring conditions, and Sylhet provides that. We’re aiming to simulate conditions as closely as possible ahead of the Asia Cup.”
After the conclusion of the series, the Bangladesh squad will depart for the UAE. A preliminary 25-member squad has already been announced, which will be trimmed down ahead of the continental tournament.
