Ben Stokes, who missed the fifth Test against India due to a shoulder injury, is now set to take on a different role during The Hundred 2025. The England Test captain will be mentoring the men’s Northern Superchargers side while continuing his rehabilitation.

Stokes had already opted out of playing in this year’s Hundred tournament back in January, as he chose to manage his workload after undergoing hamstring surgery.

Speaking earlier this year to ESPNcricinfo, he said: “You will see me knocking about the Hundred, not in a playing way, I had to make a decision in January if I would participate in the comp, but that was after my hamstring surgery. I said I’d still like to be a part of it, so I will be milling about. I won’t have a notebook and pen. I said I would come and give my time to the team. I will be cracking on with my rehab.”

The 34-year-old all-rounder played five matches for the Superchargers between 2021 and 2024, scoring just 14 runs and taking five wickets.

Stokes had an outstanding Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where he took 17 wickets and also scored a century in the Manchester Test. However, his efforts led to a shoulder injury that ruled him out of the final Test, which India went on to win.

“We took as long as we could to make the decision,” Stokes had said about missing the last Test. “It’s one of those whereweighing up the risk and reward, the risk was way too high… So I’ll start rehabbing now and focus on what we’ve got coming up in the winter.”
