Mohammed Siraj’s outstanding bowling at The Oval scripted a major win for India against England in the fifth Test, helping the visitors level the series 2-2. Siraj was eventually named the Player of the Match for picking up nine wickets.

Now, former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has claimed that Siraj’s heroics reminded him of India’s legendary former all-rounder, Kapil Dev.

Speaking to ANI, Yograj heaped praise on Siraj’s bowling throughout the England Test series and also lauded Shubman Gill for showing maturity in his captaincy despite being a new skipper.

“The way our players have played, it was amazing to watch. The way Mohammed Siraj bowled, he reminded me of Kapil Dev. The captaincy of Shubman Gill was mature. It did not seem at all that he was a captain for the first time,” Yograj said.

Siraj finished the series as the highest wicket-taker, claiming 23 wickets at an average of 32.43, including two five-wicket hauls. He led the pace attack in the absence of senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah and formed a crucial partnership with Prasidh Krishna at the Oval.

Gill, on the other hand, dominated the series with the bat, scoring 754 runs at an average of 75.40. He finished as the highest run-scorer of the series and was named India’s Player of the Series, a recognition given by England’s head coach, Brendan McCullum.

Team India’s next two Test series will be at home. First, they will face the West Indies, followed by a series against the current World Test Championship (WTC) winners, South Africa.
