Digvesh Rathi of South Delhi Superstarz got involved in a verbal spat with West Delhi Lions’ opener Ankit Kumar during the ongoing Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025. However, the exchange backfired when Rathi was hit for two back-to-back sixes.
Rathi had already made headlines during his stint with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL for his ‘notebook’ celebration and several confrontations with batters. Despite the theatrics, he had a solid season with the ball, taking 14 wickets.
On Tuesday, August 5, in the seventh match of the DPL, the incident unfolded in the fifth over of West Delhi’s chase. On the fifth delivery, Rathi suddenly pulled out of his run-up. When he returned to bowl from around the wicket, Ankit stepped away, and a fiery exchange of words followed between the two players.
When South Delhi Superstarz’s captain Ayush Badoni handed Rathi the ball again, Ankit responded in style, smashing two consecutive sixes — one over long-on and the other over deep mid-wicket. The batter also made a hand gesture showing ‘two’ directed at Rathi after the hits.
Rathi ended the game conceding 33 runs in his three overs at an economy rate of 11, without taking a wicket. Meanwhile, Ankit Kumar delivered a sensational knock, scoring 96 runs off just 46 balls at a strike rate of 208.70. His innings featured 11 fours and six sixes.
Ankit was named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance, as the West Delhi Lions chased down the 186-run target with 26 balls to spare and won the game by eight wickets.
