The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has provisionally suspended Haider Ali with immediate effect after the batter was arrested in connection with an alleged case of sexual molestation.

On 3 August, Haider, who travelled to the UK with the Pakistan Shaheens, was reportedly arrested by Greater Manchester Police in Hove.

According to the PCB, Greater Manchester Police informed them of an ongoing criminal investigation currently being conducted against Haider.

“The PCB has been made aware of a criminal investigation currently being conducted by Greater Manchester Police involving cricketer Haider Ali,” the PCB said in a statement. “The investigation pertains to an incident that reportedly occurred during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England.”

PCB provides legal support to Haider

Although he has been released on bail, the suspension will remain in place until Haider is cleared and no longer under investigation. While the PCB has suspended the Attock-based batter, it has also provided legal assistance to safeguard his rights.

“In line with its duty of care and responsibility to ensure the welfare and legal rights of all its players, the PCB has ensured that Haider Ali has received appropriate legal support to protect his rights throughout this process. The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course. Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.

Since making his debut in 2019, the 24-year-old has represented Pakistan in only two ODIs and 35 T20Is, with his most recent appearance for the national side coming in 2023 against Afghanistan during the Asian Games.

During the Pakistan Shaheens’ tour of England, the right-handed batter played three 50-over matches against a first-class XI, as well as two three-day games.
