West Indies beat Pakistan in the rain-curtailed second match of the three-match ODI series by five wickets (DLS method) in Trinidad.

After winning the toss, the Windies asked the Men in Green to bat first. However, three rain interruptions eventually made the game a 37-over affair.

The Windies’ bowlers kept it tight from the beginning, and Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Jayden Seales gave West Indies a double break in the ninth over, and after that, wickets continued to fall regularly.

Throughout the innings, Pakistan struggled to stitch a big partnership. The only significant contributions came from Saim Ayub (23 off 31), Abdullah Shafique (26 off 40), Hussain Talat (31 off 32), and Hasan Nawaz (unbeaten 36 off 30 balls). It was a disappointing outing for both veteran batters, Babar Azam (three-ball duck) and skipper Mohammad Rizwan (16 off 38).

Seales was the pick of the bowlers for the home side, finishing with figures of 3/23 in his seven overs at an economy rate of 3.28. Ultimately, Pakistan scored 171/7 in 37 overs, but due to rain, West Indies’ revised target was 181 in 35 overs, as per the DLS method.

West Indies had a poor start to their innings as they lost their openers very early. But skipper Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford added 54 runs for the fourth wicket before Hope got out for 32 off 35. Rutherford also went back to the dressing room for 45 off 33, and then, at 107/5, the home team were in a spot of bother.

However, Roston Chase stitched a brilliant unbeaten 77-run partnership from 72 balls with Justin Greaves to take West Indies home with five wickets to spare in 33.2 overs. Chase played a fantastic knock of unbeaten 49 from 47 balls and was well supported by Greaves (unbeaten 26 off 31).

For Pakistan, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Nawaz took two wickets each while Abrar Ahmed chipped in with one wicket. Chase was adjudged the Player of the Match.

With this win, the series is now tied at 1-1 as the third and final match will take place on 12 August in Tarouba.
