Team India batter Karun Nair’s international comeback in the recently concluded India vs England Test series was a mixed bag. The batter scored 205 runs including a half-century in the series that ended in a 2-2 draw. While his long-awaited return didn’t end up with much positives, the batter showered praise on Test captain Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.

While speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Nair said that Gill illustrated the same spirit as head coach Gautam Gambhir as the new Test captain while hailing his batting performance and leadership when it came to managing and communicating with the team.

“The way Shubman held everyone together and the encouragement he gave was great to see. He was crystal clear with his communication from the beginning. To achieve what he did as a batter, while also leading the team…as a leader, he exemplified the spirit of Gauti bhai,” he said.

Nair also credited Pant for his courageous effort with an injury and showed the true spirit of sportsmanship the moment when he came out to bat with a broken toe.

“Then to see Rishabh walk out to bat with a broken toe – it was one of the moments of the series. It was astonishing for everyone to see. It told you what a great player he is, and more importantly, the person he is. That kind of exemplified the philosophy of the team of putting everything first for the team, it’s not about individuals,” he added.
