Australia batter Tim David has revealed that the team management has given the batting group the freedom to play with full aggression in T20Is as preparations ramp up for next year’s T20 World Cup.
His comments came after a blistering 83 off 53 balls in Darwin helped Australia post 178, setting up a 17-run win over South Africa in the series opener. At 75/6, the 2021 T20 World Cup champions were under pressure, but David stuck to his attacking instincts.
“We’ve been playing together for a while now, so there’s not much in the way of strict instructions from the coaches,” David said after winning the player of the match award in the first T20I. “We back ourselves, read the situation out in the middle, and make quick decisions – that’s T20 cricket. If you’ve watched us bat recently, whether for Australia or in leagues around the world, you’ll see it’s pretty much all-out attack. That’s the style we believe works best for us.”
It has been a standout year for both David and the Australian T20 side. The Darwin victory marked their ninth consecutive win, while David has maintained the rich vein of form he showed in IPL 2025. He recently struck his maiden T20I century against West Indies, again in a crisis situation.
The rise of Mitchell Owen as a finisher has also allowed David to move slightly higher in the batting order – a move that appears to be reaping rewards.
