Dewald Brevis seems to be in his best form in the ongoing T20I series against Australia. The 22-year-old became the second fastest South African SA batter in men’s T20Is to score a century. Impressed by his heroics, AB de Villiers said Brevis is a ‘lucky gem’ for Chennai Super Kings.

The former South Africa batter and legendary figure in the Indian Premier League, De Villiers took to social media and credited CSK for buying Brevis at the 2025 auction, while criticizing other franchises for overlooking him.

“There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction,” De Villiers posted on his X handle (formerly Twitter). “Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke ever. The boy can play,” said the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru star.

Brevis, who was playing his ninth T20I match today, made an undefeated 125 off 56 balls at a strike rate of 223.21. The knock contained 12 fours and eight sixes. It was the highest score in his team’s total of 218/7. South Africa won by 53 runs.

In his first season for CSK in IPL 2025, Brevis made 225 runs in six matches at an average of 37.50 and hit two half-centuries. He also performed well on the field taking crucial catches. He was with Mumbai Indians in the past and their loss seems to be the Chennai franchise’s gain.
