South Africa defeated Australia by 53 runs in the second T20I in Darwin. Dewald Brevis was the hero for the visiting side as he scored an unbeaten 125, which is the highest T20I score by any South African batter. The three-match series is tied 1-1.

Australia won the toss and opted to field. South Africa lost three wickets inside seven overs for 57 runs. Then, Tristan Stubbs joined Brevis. They put on a partnership of 126 runs off just 57 balls that not only gave the innings solidity, but also laid the foundation for a big total.

Brevis was in blistering form. In the 12th over, bowled by Glenn Maxwell, he smashed 23 runs, which included three sixes and a four. In the process, he completed his maiden fifty in T20I cricket. He had a stroke of luck as well. He was dropped on the fourth ball of that over by substitute fielder Matthew Kuhnemann.

In the next over, bowled by Josh Hazlewood, Brevis moved into the 80s by hitting two fours and a six. He pulled the fifth ball of the 15th over to fine-leg to reach three figures. It was the second-fastest T20I hundred for South Africa and came in just 41 balls. His innings included 12 fours and eight sixes. South Africa made 218/7 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals from the beginning. Tim David made 50 off just 24 balls at a strike rate of 208.33. Except for him, none of the batters could pose any threat to South Africa. Corbin Bosch was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/20 in three overs. Brevis was adjudged the Player of the Match.
