Australia will be without Mitchell Owen, Lance Morris and Matt Short for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, as well as the third and final T20I in Cairns.
Aaron Hardie, Cooper Connolly and Matt Kuhnemann have been drafted into the squad as replacements.
Owen suffered a concussion after being struck on the helmet by Kagiso Rabada during the second T20I in Darwin. He passed the initial check but later developed symptoms. As advised by the medical team, the 23-year-old must rest for the mandatory 12-day period, which means he will also miss what could have been his ODI debut.
Morris has been sidelined due to back soreness and has returned to Perth for further assessment. Meanwhile, Short, who was initially ruled out of the first two T20Is, is still recovering from a side strain sustained in the Caribbean earlier this year.
In another update, Josh Inglis, who missed the second T20I due to ‘flu-like symptoms’, has not been released from the T20I or ODI squad. The wicketkeeper-batter will be assessed before a decision is made regarding his participation in the T20I series finale on Saturday.
Hardie, who has played 13 ODIs and is currently with the T20I squad as cover for Short, has been recalled after last playing an ODI in February against Sri Lanka.
Kuhnemann and Connolly have been added to bolster the spin department.
South Africa levelled the T20I series with a 53-run win on Tuesday. The decider will be played on Saturday in Cairns, which will also host the first ODI on 19 August. The final two ODIs will take place in Mackay on 22 and 24 August.
