West Indies’ cricket is going through one of its toughest phases, and Brian Lara has requested the board to take urgent steps in a bid to improve the current situation. The batting legend believes it is time for Cricket West Indies (CWI) to bring Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard on board to help guide the younger generation and revive the team.

“An honour to be called upon to contribute to the future of West Indies cricket, particularly at a time as pivotal as this,” Lara said after the CWI conference, which happened after West Indies lost two Tests and five T20Is against Australia. “I do not take lightly the responsibility of offering whatever insight or assistance I can. The opportunity to serve is something I embrace wholeheartedly, and I remain committed to the cause.”

The former captain feels West Indies need a wider approach to deal with their current struggles. “We must recognise that the challenges confronting West Indies cricket extend far beyond inconsistent performances on the field,” Lara wrote on Instagram. “They are deeply rooted in cultural, psychological, and structural shifts that have evolved over the past two decades. If we are truly committed to reversing this decline, then we must be prepared to draw from a wider pool of lived experience and contemporary insight.”

The former Windies captain stressed that Gayle, Bravo and Pollard understand the modern game and the younger players better as he concluded, “The time to act is now, but we must act together.”
