
Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra has secured his spot in the 2025 Diamond League Final in Zurich, Switzerland, as per the latest rankings updated on the Diamond League website, on Sunday. The final is scheduled from August 26 to 28 in the Swiss capital.
The reigning World Champion will take part in his fourth Diamond League final of his career. He earlier qualified in 2022, 2023 and 2024, winning the title in 2022 and finishing as runner-up in the last two finals. Incidentally, his 2022 title came in Zurich; the city that is going to host this year’s tournament.
The two-time Olympic medalist opted out of the Silesia Diamond League where he was expected to take on Arshad Nadeem. But due to some reasons, both Neeraj and his rival opted out of the tournament.
Neeraj qualified for the finals easily with 15 points. Julian Weber of Germany with 15 and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago with 17 points also made the cut. Grenada’s Anderson Peters and Kenya’s Julius Yego are also expected to qualify for the final.
The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, Neeraj,has participated in only two Diamond League events this season. He began his Diamond League season in Doha, crossing the elusive 90m mark for the first time in his career with a throw of 90.23m, finishing second behind Germany’s Weber. In his second appearance of 2025, in Paris, the two-time Olympic medalist hurled the javelin 88.16m to claim victory.
Before the Diamond League Final, one more stop at the Brussels Diamond League awaits where Neeraj is supposed to compete, but no official information is out regarding that yet.
Ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, a fully fit Neeraj will aim for his second Diamond League finals victory.
