Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan has opted out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the Netherlands due to personal reasons.
Mehidy communicated his decision to officials at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who confirmed the development on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old, named in the 25-member preliminary squad, will be away for 15 days to be with his wife, who is reportedly unwell.
“Mehidy took leave from 20 August to 4 September to be with his wife, as she is not keeping well. As a result, he is not travelling to Sylhet for the skill camp ahead of the series against the Netherlands,” a BCB official told Cricbuzz.
As Mehidy is expected to be available from 5 September, he is likely to be named in the Asia Cup squad. The continental tournament is scheduled to begin on 9 September.
The BCB has yet to announce the final squad for the three-match series, and with Miraz, who featured in the Pakistan series, absent, his replacement remains uncertain.
According to Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh team moved to Sylhet on Tuesday evening for their preparation camp.
The Netherlands team is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on 26 August. They will have three training days before the series begins, marking their first-ever bilateral T20I series in Bangladesh.
The first T20I will take place on 30 August, followed by the second and third matches on 1 and 3 September, respectively. All fixtures will be played at the Sylhet International Stadium.
Placed in a group alongside Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh will begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against Hong Kong on 11 September.
