Former India selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth is unhappy with Harshit Rana’s selection in the Asia Cup squad. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth opposed the selection, citing his performance in the IPL.
“Where did Harshit Rana come from? He was so poor in the IPL. He is being managed. He had an economy rate of 10 in the IPL. What message are you giving to Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj,” asked the former India selection committee chief.
Rana did not have a good IPL. He played 13 matches and took 15 wickets at an economy rate of 10.18, with best figures of 3/25.
The former India opener also believes that Washington Sundar should have been picked in the squad, as he is an all-rounder who can bat lower down the order.
“They will make Tilak Varma the sixth bowler. Is Abhishek Sharma going to be your sixth bowler or Shivam Dube? He hardly bowled in the IPL. This is an adjustment selection. If you needed someone who can bat and bowl at No. 8, Washington Sundar would have been ideal. Shivam Dube at No. 8 does not make any sense.”
Sundar performed extremely well in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England and, alongside Ravindra Jadeja, was instrumental in saving the fourth Test. He played four matches in the series and scored 284 runs at an average of 47.33, which included one century and one half-century, with a highest score of an unbeaten 101. He also took seven wickets.
