Prenelan Subrayen made his debut for South Africa against Australia in the first match of the three-match ODI series, and the off-spinner has been reported for a suspected bowling action. The match officials raised concerns about the legality of his action.
The ICC said in a media release: “The match officials’ report specified concerns about the legality of Subrayen’s action.”
This is not the first time his action has been reported. Between 2012 and 2016, his action was reported multiple times.
Last month, Subrayen made his Test debut against Zimbabwe. The off-spinner took four wickets in the first innings of the match, finishing with figures of 4/42 in his 10 overs. He did not take any wickets in the second innings.
In his debut ODI match, he had the dangerous Travis Head stumped by Ryan Rickelton, finishing with figures of 1/46 in his ten overs at an economy rate of 4.60.
The 31-year-old cricketer will now have to undergo an independent assessment of his bowling action at an ICC-accredited testing facility to prove that his action is legal, within 14 days. As per the guidelines, bowlers are permitted up to 15 degrees of elbow extension while delivering the ball.
The next two matches of the ODI series against Australia are scheduled for 22 and 24 August in Mackay.
