Another surprising exclusion, barring that of Shreyas Iyer, by the Indian selection committee from India’s Asia Cup squad was of left-hand batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. The team brought back Shubman Gill to the T20I squad while leaving out Jaiswal. Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal is, however, not quite happy with the decision.
Speaking to ANI, the former India pacer expressed his shock on Jaiswal’s elimination from the team and stated that a match-winning player like him should not be excluded. He also offered his insights on Gill saying that he is likely to play in all formats for India.
“Sometimes you feel surprised that a player like Yashasvi Jaiswal is not in the team,” Lal said. “Gill is a good choice as he is performing well. In the coming time, it is possible that Gill will play in all three formats… The players who make the team win a match must not be left out. We have such a good team that we may win the Asia Cup.”
While the criticism continues, the excluded names from the squad include all-rounder Washington Sundar, batter Shreyas Iyer, and bowler Ravi Bishnoi. Team India will be led by captain Suryakumar Yadav and Gill as the vice-captain, who replaced Axar Patel this time from the role.
The last T20I match Jaiswal played was during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2024. In three matches he scored 80 runs at the strike rate of 177.77. While mentioning his T20I career so far, the opening batter has scored 723 runs in 23 matches played for India.
