Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has entered the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) election race with a strong promise to restore the lost charm of Bengaluru’s iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. His campaign is focused on safety, smart infrastructure, and the return of international cricket to the city.

“That’s something that shouldn’t have happened, honestly. We have to be very proactive in liaisoning with the government. We have to ensure that matches are played in Chinnaswamy Stadium as soon as possible,” Prasad said while launching his campaign.

The former pacer pointed to recent issues that have put the stadium under scrutiny. During RCB’s 2025 IPL title celebrations, a stampede raised serious safety concerns. Soon after, now the Women’s World Cup matches are reportedly set to be away from the venue due to poor management worries.

Prasad, along with his panel members, which includes former KSCA secretary Santosh Menon and administrator Mruthyunjaya, has promised sweeping changes. He vowed to bring back the stadium’s prestige in world cricket.

“We need to bring back the lost glory as far as the stadium is concerned. We would like to bring back international cricket. It’s such an iconic venue, standing for the last 50 years. This is something which has never happened where the international matches have been moved out. It is not a good thing,” he added.

Prasad also expressed concern over the state of domestic cricket in Karnataka, stressing the need to rebuild the grassroots structure.

“There’s no structure with men’s cricket or women’s cricket in Karnataka, or even for the banks and industries. Those matches have not happened in the last few years,” he said.
