Cheteshwar Pujara is now set to return forSaurashtra in the upcoming Ranji Trophy, which will give the team a big boos. The veteran batter, who has played 103 Test matches, has confirmed his availability through the Saurashtra Cricket Association. The Ranji Trophy starts on October 15, whereSaurashtra will start their campaign against Karnataka.

“He has signalled his readiness to play in the upcoming Ranji season. It is, of course, good news for us as his experience will be a big advantage for the team,” a senior SCA official told Cricbuzz.

At the age of 37, Pujara only plays red ball cricket for his home state after being left out from Indian Test squad after the World Test Championship final at the Oval in June 2023. Last season, he scored 402 runs in seven games with an average of over 40 which included a century and a halfcentury. Despite his efforts, Saurashtra were knocked out in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, Ajinkya Rahane has also stepped down from the captaincy after leading the team successfully for years which includes guiding them to the Ranji Trophy title in the 2023-24 season. However, his stepping down from captaincy does not mean that he won’t play for Mumbai.
