England has declared their 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which will start on September 30. Nat Sciver-Brunt, who is the top ranked batter in the women’s ODI rankings, will be the captain.
As mentioned on the ICC Website, head coach Charlotte Edwards said they are ready to take on any team.
“Being selected to play for your country in a World Cup is one of the biggest honours in sport and I’m delighted for all the players named in the squad. Like all global tournaments, it will be a huge challenge but we want to go as far as we possibly can in India and I believe that if we play our best cricket we can compete with anyone.”
She also explained why they had strengthened their spin department and left out some of the players.
“Conditions mean we have gone for the extra spinner and we’re lucky to be able to have such depth in this department. It’s fantastic to welcome Sarah Glenn back. That does mean there’s no room for Kate Cross, Maia Bouchier or Alice Davidson-Richards, which will be disappointing for them.”
Sarah Glenn makes a comeback after missing the series against India and will be a part of strong spin-bowling department led by Sophie Ecclestone, who is ranked No. 1 in the ODI bowler’s rankings. Ex-captain Heather Knight makes a comeback to the squad after recovering from a tendon injury.
England won the tournament in 1973, 1993, 2009 and 2017. And they will be looking for their fifth title this year. Their first match is against South Africa on October 3.
England Squad: Nat Sciver-Brunt (C), Em Arlott, Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Sarah Glenn, Amy Jones, Heather Knight, Emma Lamb, Linsey Smith, Danni Wyatt-Hodge.
