Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) have bolstered their defence with the signing of India international Mehtab Singh on a five-year contract. The 27-year-old centre-back from Punjab completed his medical on Saturday morning before officially putting pen to paper.
Mehtab, a two-time ISL Shield and League winner with Mumbai City FC, is regarded as one of the country’s most dependable defenders. Known primarily as a stopper, he also offers versatility by being able to slot in as a full-back — a trait that will give coach José Molina more tactical flexibility in the coming season.
The defender is no stranger to Kolkata, having previously played for East Bengal for close to four years, including appearances in the high-voltage derby. He expressed his delight at fulfilling what he described as a long-cherished dream of donning the green-and-maroon colours.
“Every Indian footballer dreams of playing for Mohun Bagan, and I am no different,” Mehtab told the club’s media team. He added that the passion of the supporters and the lure of playing in the Kolkata derby were key factors behind his decision to join.
Mehtab will join his new teammates at training later today, with his immediate focus on the upcoming AFC Champions League opener, where Mohun Bagan aim to make a strong start.
