The auction for the fourth season of SA20 is set to take place on 9 September in Johannesburg, and this time, 784 players from around the world have registered. Among them are 13 Indian cricketers, including well-known names such as Piyush Chawla, Siddharth Kaul, and Ankit Rajpoot.
The other Indian players on the list include: Mahesh Ahir (Gujarat), Sarul Kanwar (Punjab), Anureet Singh Kathuria (Delhi), Nikhil Jaga (Rajasthan), KS Naveen (Tamil Nadu), Imran Khan (UPCA), Atul Yadav (UPCA), as well as Mohamed Faidh, Ansari Marouf, and Venkatesh Galipelly.
According to BCCI regulations, only retired Indian players are permitted to participate in overseas T20 leagues.
So far, only Dinesh Karthik has featured in the SA20 from India, having represented the Paarl Royals last season after retiring from all forms of cricket.
Most of the Indian players have a base price of 200,000 Rand. Chawla has the highest reserve price among them, set at 1,000,000 Rand, while Imran Khan is listed at 500,000 Rand. The six SA20 franchises have a combined budget of 7.4 million USD to fill their 84 available slots. Teams may also sign one wildcard player, whose salary will not count towards the salary cap.
The auction list also includes 40 Pakistani players; however, no franchise has selected any of them over the past three seasons, as most teams are owned by individuals of Indian origin. Over 150 English players have registered for the auction, including the likes of Jason Roy and Alex Hales. Top South African players such as Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, and Dewald Brevis are also part of the list.
SA20 2025–26 will be played from 26 December to 25 January.
