Sanju Samson has made a strong statement with the bat ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, which is scheduled to start on September 9. The star wicketkeeper-batter smashed a blazing century in the ongoing Kerala Cricket League for his team, Kochi Blue Tigers.

In the recently announced 15-member squad of Team India for the Asia Cup, Samson found a place. However, there were reports that his position in the playing XI might be uncertain, especially with the arrival of the newly appointed vice-captain, Shubman Gill. But ahead of the tournament, Samson struck a brilliant ton to showcase his form.

While chasing a big target of 237 runs, Samson gave his team a solid start with Vinoop Manoharan, who scored 64 runs. Then, for the second wicket, Samson added 89 runs with Mohammed Shanu, which gave the innings stability. These two partnerships laid the foundation for Kochi Blue Tigers to secure the win.

Samson went on to complete a brilliant century before getting out on the first ball of the 19th over, after scoring 121 runs off just 51 balls at a strike rate of 237.25. His innings included 14 fours and seven sixes. The Tigers won the match with a six off the last ball, defeating Aries Kollam Sailors (AKS) by four wickets.

Earlier, AKS put on a huge score of 236, thanks to superb batting from Vishnu Vinod and Sachin Baby, who scored 94 and 91 runs respectively.

Samson was adjudged the Player of the Match for his explosive batting display.
