Virat Kohli has penned a heartfelt tribute for his former teammate Cheteshwar Pujara on social media. The former India captain praised Pujara’s career and thanked him for making things easier in the middle-order of the batting line-up.

Kohli shared a picture of the two on Instagram with a message that read: “Thank you for making my job easier at 4 pujji. You’ve had an amazing career. Congratulations and wish you all the best for what’s ahead. God bless 🙌 @cheteshwar_pujara”.

Pujara announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Sunday, August 24.

For a majority of his career, Pujara played at No. 3 for India, while Kohli occupied the No. 4 spot. The two formed a handy partnership, sharing 3,513 runs in 83 Test matches.

Pujara made 7,195 runs in 103 Test matches at an average of 43.60. He struck 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. In the ODI format, he played just five matches, scoring 51 runs.

Under Kohli’s captaincy in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia in 2018-19, Pujara played a crucial role in India’s series win. He was the highest scorer with 521 runs in seven innings at an average of 74.42. Kohli, on the other hand, aggregated 282 runs at 40.28.

Pujara last represented India in the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia in 2023. India lost the match.
