Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has criticized foreign ex-cricketers for their comments on India’s squad selection for the Asia Cup 2025. Speculation began after several major names were left out of the tournament, including batters Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Gavaskar pointed out that foreign cricketers have no say in matters concerning Indian cricket. He went on to highlight their lack of judgement when it comes to affairs in their own countries.

“What is baffling is that foreigners, who have zero stake in Indian cricket—and even less knowledge about it—are wading into the debate and adding fuel to the fire,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar. “However great they may be as players, and however many times they may have visited India, the selection of the Indian team is strictly none of their business. They should focus on their own country’s cricket and let us Indians worry about ours. Amazingly, when their own national teams are selected, there is hardly ever a word from them about the process.”

Gavaskar cited the example of Indian cricketers, who refrain from commenting on foreign cricket matters. The former Indian batter believes there is no need to interfere in others’ affairs when one has their own to focus on.

“It’s almost as if their selection process is perfect and there is nothing to comment on. So, why stick your nose into the selection of the Indian team? Have you ever heard Indian ex-cricketers talk about the selection of other countries’ teams? No—we mind our own business and genuinely couldn’t care less about who they select or leave out,” he added.
