With Neeraj Chopra you can never predict a result until the event is over. It was a somewhat underwhelming outing by the former Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra at the Diamond League 2025 Final in Zurich, as he finished second with his best throw of the day, 85.01m. This was the only time he crossed the 85m mark on the night in Switzerland. However, it marked his 26th consecutive top-two finish in major tournaments, which speaks of his consistency.
Germany’s Julian Weber, in the form of his life, breached the 90m mark twice, first with 91.37m and then with 91.51m. The latter sealed the top podium spot for the German.
All eyes were on the Indian javelin champion as he took the stage to reclaim the 2022 title he had won at the same venue. This was Chopra’s sixth Diamond League Final appearance. He had qualified for Zurich after his season and personal best throw of 90.23m at the Doha meet, followed by 88.16m at the Paris meet. With focus on the final in Zurich, he skipped the Silesia and Brussels legs.
Chopra’s first attempt of the night was 84.35m, which kept him in third place throughout the event, until his very last throw. That was followed by an 82m effort and then three deliberate fouls. As he has often done in the recent past, Chopra saved his best for the last and it was the same story on this night as well.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott produced 84.95m with his first throw, which briefly gave him the second spot. However, all his other throws were below Chopra’s 82m. In terms of distances, the top four throws on the night all belonged to Weber. After his two 90m-plus efforts, the German registered 86.45m in his fifth attempt and 88.66m in his last, the third-best of the competition.
As reported by RevSportz’s on-ground correspondent Vishnu Reddy, the conditions were perfect — around 18 degrees Celsius with barely 2–3 km/h wind. For Indian fans, Chopra once again ensured a place in the top two, but it was Weber who stole the show in Zurich.
