Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa praised the Bharat Army for always supporting the team. Speaking in the UK during the World Championship of Legends last month, he said the group’s dedication and presence around the world motivates the players.
“I know that they have been following India, and following us everywhere that we play,” Uthappa said, pointing to the familiar blue wave seen in stands around the world. “And it’s always nice to have our own fans everywhere we go. It takes a lot of effort and a lot of commitment from the entire Bharat Army.”
The Bharat Army was started as a small group of travelling fans over 20 years ago and this has now become a global fan movement. When they cheer in foreign stadiums like London, Melbourne, and Birmingham, it feels like India is playing at home.
Thanking them for their unwavering energy, Uthappa added, “Thank you so much for your support. A little bit of backing goes a long way especially in big tournaments, so keep standing behind us, and once again, we are grateful for all the good energy and the support that we have gotten over the years.”
The 2007 T20 World Cup winner also highlighted the impact that fan support can have on professionals. “I think great support always helps. It always kind of gives you a little bit of motivation. It gives you some wings and that support really means well, especially for guys who are not playing well,” he said.
