
Danish Malewar of Central Zone lit up the Duleep Trophy after hitting a fantastic double hundred against North East Zone on Friday. The 21-year-old scored 203 before retiring hurt.
Malewar made his First-Class debut for Vidarbha in 2024. He first made headlines in the semi-final in the same season against the heavyweights Mumbai. The top order batter was part of three important partnerships in the first innings of that match which helped Vidarbha reach 383. The young batter har scored 79 of 157 balls. Eventually, Vidarbha won the match by 80 runs. He bettered his performance in the final against Kerala, scoring a brilliant 153 in first innings and followed it with an important 73 to help his team win the title. He was adjudged the player of the final.
In his first season, Malewar played nine First-class matches, scoring 783 runs at an average of 52.20, including two centuries and six half-centuries with the best score of 153. The numbers helped him get a call up in Duleep Trophy.
Coming back to the ongoing Duleep Trophy match, Malewar stitched a 199-run partnership with captain Rajat Patidar that not only gave the innings solidity but also laid the foundation for a big score. Malewar hit his first double century of his career, which included 36 fours and a six.
Central Zone declared at 532/4. In reply North East Zone, is struggling at 168/7.
