Rajasthan Royals have parted ways with Rahul Dravid. The legendary batsman and the former India coach, who returned to the Royals fold last season as head coach, is leaving by mutual consent.
“Rajasthan Royals today announced that Head Coach Rahul Dravid will conclude his tenure with the franchise ahead of IPL 2026,” stated a Royals press release.
It added: “Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey over many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, built strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise.”
The Royals management didn’t completely want to sever ties with Dravid and offered him a different role. But the 52-year-old chose not to take it.
“As part of the franchise structural review Rahul had been offered a broader position at the franchise, but has chosen not to take this,” said the press release, adding: “The Rajasthan Royals, its players, and millions of fans worldwide extend heartfelt thanks to Rahul for his remarkable service to the franchise.”
Dravid had earlier served as Royals captain in 2012 and 2013 before assuming the role of team mentor for the next two years. Last season he returned as the team head coach on the heels of India’s T20 World Cup triumph.
Royals, however, finished ninth at the 2025 IPL and during the course, there had been murmurs about some discord between him and captain Sanju Samson. The Royals management, however, has rubbished the rumours. As RevSportz has already reported, Sanju’s IPL future rests with the franchise’s principal owner Manoj Badale.
