Young Delhi batter Yash Dhull has opened up about how tough times have taught him valuable lessons about self-improvement, as he now looks to enjoy the game without thinking too far ahead.

In June last year, Dhull was diagnosed with a hole in his heart and had to undergo surgery. Following the operation, he stayed away from the field for months. However, upon his return, he made an immediate impact. In the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season, he amassed 444 runs in ten innings at an average of 49.33, which he followed up with a superb run in the Delhi Premier League, scoring 435 runs in nine innings at an average of 87 and a strike rate of 167.31.

“The tough times taught me a lot about myself, about my game, about my life — how to grow, how to improve. So much has happened. Now, I just enjoy my game, I spend time on it, and that gives me all the happiness,” Dhull said.

The former U19 skipper now realises that ups and downs are as much a part of his career as they are of life.

“At the same time, I have to handle such things. There will be ups and downs. I have to go through them and move on. But right now, I just want to stay in the present. I don’t want to think about the past or the future. I just want to grab the opportunities I have and enjoy them,” he added.

Dhull is currently playing for North Zone in the Duleep Trophy. In the first quarter-final against East Zone, the 22-year-old smashed 133 off just 157 balls as North Zone secured a semi-final spot.
