Asif Ali Retires, Will Continue in Domestic Leagues

Pakistan’s middleorder batter Asif Ali has announced his retirement from international cricket. The 33-year-old confirmed his retirement through a social media post on September 1. He made it clear that he will continue to play in domestic and franchise leagues across the world.

“Today, I announce my retirement from international cricket,” Ali wrote. “Wearing the Pakistan jersey has been the greatest honour of my life and serving my country on the cricket field has been my proudest chapter. I retire with immense gratitude and will continue to share my passion for the game by playing domestic and league cricket worldwide,” he said.

Ali has started his international career in 2018, in ODIs and T20Is. In total, he played 21 ODIs and 58 T20Is where he scored 959 runs. Asif is known for his big hitting. He had a strike rate of 121.65 in ODIs and 133.87 in T20Is. One of his most famous knocks came during the 2021 T20 World Cup against Afghanistan, where Pakistan needed 24 runs in the last two overs and Ali smashed four sixes in one over to win the match.

Another big moment of his career came during the 2022 Asia Cup, when he scored 16 runs off just eight balls which helpedPakistan chase a target of 182 against India. Despite showcasing his brilliance in crucial matches, Ali mostly struggled withconsistency. However, his career will still be alive in the domestic leagues across the world.
