Zimbabwe have announced a 16-member squad for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, which is starting on September 3.

The highlight is the return of senior all-rounder Sean Williams. He last played a T20I in May 2024 against Bangladesh. Williams also captained the ODI side against Sri Lanka after Craig Ervine was ruled out because of an injury.

Another big name in the squad is Brendon Taylor. The former Zimbabwe captain made his international comeback after almost four years during the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka. His presence in the team will bring experience in the batting line-up.

Some players from the last tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa have missed out this time. Newman Nyamhuri, WesslyMadhevere, Vincent Masekesa, and TafadzwaTsiga are not part of the squad. In their place, Brad Evans and Tadiwanashe Marumani have been included in the squad.

The selectors believe this series will be very important for Zimbabwe’s preparation before the coming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in this month in Harare. This qualifier will decide Zimbabwe’s place in next year’s main event.

After Williams and Taylor are back in the squad,Zimbabwe will hope to produce a strong performance against Sri Lanka and build confidence ahead of the qualifiers.
