Team India’s wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has praised his T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav. While speaking to Times of India, he said that Surya is an inspiration to many cricketers.

“Surya bhai is an inspiration for so many people. He made his international debut at 31. It gives lots of hope for all the late bloomers. He is one of the best T20I batters in the world. He can manipulate the field, he can tear apart any bowling attack,” Jitesh said.

Born in 1990, Suryakumar Yadav played his first match for India against England on March 14, 2021, and a few years later went on to become India’s T20I captain. So far, he has played one Test, 37 ODIs, and 83 T20Is, scoring 8, 773, and 2598 runs respectively.

Like Surya, Jitesh also began his international career late, making his debut against Nepal at the age of 29. He has played nine T20Is for India and scored 100 runs so far.

Jitesh added that he has learned a lot from Surya.

“Wo talent ke bhandaar hai, mai unse seekhne ki koshish karta rehta hoon, unko copy karne ki koshish karta hoon (He is a storehouse of talent; I keep trying to learn from him and often try to emulate him). I used to copy him a lot. But now I have started to execute the shots as well. Ek Supla aaya IPL final mey (I managed to hit one Surya special in the IPL final),” he added.

Jitesh has also been included in India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, where Surya will lead the team.
