
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Narayan Jagadeesan set the first day of the semi-finals of the Duleep Trophy on fire with their brilliant centuries.
Playing for West Zone against Central Zone, Gaikwad came to bat when his team was struggling after losing two wickets with just 10 runs on the board. Gaikwad took charge with Aarya Desai and stitched together a partnership of 82 runs that gave West Zone’s innings some stability.
After that, Gaikwad was involved in two small partnerships. Tanush Kotian and Gaikwad put together 145 runs for the sixth wicket that helped West Zone gain the upper hand. Gaikwad made 184 in just 206 balls, including 25 fours and a six. At stumps, West Zone were 363/6.
Jagadeesan, who recently flew to England as a replacement for Rishabh Pant in the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, came to open the innings for South Zone against North Zone and gave a solid start to his team.
Jagadeesan and Tanmay Agarwal put on a century stand. After that, Devdutt Padikkal joined Jagadeesan, and they added 128 runs for the second wicket, which helped South Zone move into a position of ascendancy. At close, Jagadeesan was batting on 148. His knock included 13 fours and two sixes. South Zone were 296/3.
