Pakistan women’s skipper Fatima Sana has revealed that she takes inspiration from former India captain MS Dhoni when it comes to leadership. As the Women in Green prepare for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, she said she wants to become a ‘Captain Cool’ like Dhoni.

In an interview with PTI Bhasha, Fatima admitted that captaining in a big tournament comes with pressure but Dhoni’s style motivates her.

“It is natural to be a little nervous initially when captaining in a big tournament like the World Cup, but I take inspiration from Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a captain. I have seen his matches as India and CSK captain. His on-field decision-making, calmness and the way he backs his players, there is a lot to learn from that. When I got the captaincy, I thought that I have to become like Dhoni. I also watched his interviews and got to learn a lot,” she said.

This will be Pakistan’s sixth appearance in a Women’s Cricket World Cup. In the previous five editions (1997, 2009, 2013, 2017, 2022), they managed only three wins. Their most recent victory came in 2022 against the West Indies.

However, under Fatima’s leadership, Pakistan remained unbeaten in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025, which helped them secure a place in the mega event.

Looking ahead, Fatima stressed that her team will not dwell on the past and will aim high.

“This time, the jinx will definitely be broken because the young players know how important this tournament is for Pakistan women’s cricket. We will not think about the past. My goal is to take the team to the semifinals,” she added.

Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign on October 2, in Colombo against Bangladesh.
