Ajinkya Rahane has said it will be interesting to see how India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, makes a comeback in the upcoming Asia Cup following his surgery.

He is a key batter for the team. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rahane praised Surya for his IPL performance following a disappointing series against England.

“As a captain, he has been fantastic. He is a proactive captain, led the team really well in the past, but I feel, in this Asia Cup, his batting will be really important,” said Rahane.

“Didn’t have a good series against England, but came back to form in IPL with five fifties and finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with a healthy strike rate. We all know Surya is a dangerous batter. In this format, he has done really well. But it will be interesting to see how he goes about his batting, especially after the surgery.”

Surya managed only 28 runs in five T20I matches against England earlier this year, with a best score of 14. He made a fantastic comeback in the IPL, scoring 717 runs in 16 matches at an average of 65.18, at a strike rate of 167.92, with a top score of an unbeaten 73. He finished as the second highest run-scorer in the tournament.

In June, he underwent hernia surgery in Munich, Germany. The Asia Cup will be the first international tournament he plays after recovery.

Surya has captained India in 22 T20I matches, winning 17, and losing four. One match was tied. That’s a winning percentage of 77.27.
