South Africa batter Dewald Brevis shared his experience of being in the dressing room with the legendary MS Dhoni and was impressed by his humility and welcoming nature.

After going unsold at last year’s auction, Brevis was signed by CSK as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh. During his first stint with CSK, the young South African batting sensation impressed everyone, including Dhoni, with his big-hitting prowess and also with his fielding.

Brevis was often seen talking to and spending time with Dhoni during pre-match and post-match routines, as well as practice sessions.

“I always tell people it was an amazing experience… The one thing I can say about MS is how humble he is as a person — that really stood out for me,” said Brevis while talking to AB de Villiers on his YouTube channel. “Off the field, the time he gives to players and people is special. His door is always open. If he’s sleeping, that’s the only time it’s closed. I’ve often found myself in his room, just sitting there, chatting about cricket or his hobbies. Everyone knows what he does on the field and at training, but off the field he’s just as inspiring. I really enjoyed my time there.”

With 225 runs in IPL 2025 at a strike rate of 180, Brevis made his mark. The right-hander batter was one of the bright spots in what was a forgettable season for the five-time IPL winners.

The Chennai Super Kings have the option to retain Brevis for the next season.
