Cameron Green is confident he will return to bowling in time for the Ashes, and he, along with Beau Webster, believes there is space for two all-rounders in Australia’s line-up.

The pair have never played together when both were available to bowl, but they insist that this strategy could work in the Ashes.

Webster, who has impressed in his seven Tests with both bat and ball, emphasised that selection should come down to merit. “I think there is room for both of us. It can certainly work,” Webster told AAP.

With a batting average of 34.63 and a bowling average of 23.25, the 31-year-old Webster has quickly become a reliable option in the middle order.

“At the end of the day, we are both vying for an all-rounder spot, and the way Cameron’s career is going — and how well he is hitting the ball — it looks like he can bat anywhere in the top seven,” he added.

Webster hopes that Green performing well at No.3 or No.4 will help secure his own place lower down the order. “That opens the door for me at No.6 if I’m still among the best six batters in the country. And if I can bowl and field well, that’s only a bonus,” he said.

Green will resume bowling in the upcoming Sheffield Shield matches after undergoing back surgery last year.

“A slow build-up is the way to go so it pays dividends later, but I’m 100 per cent fit now,” Green told AAP.

Like Webster, Green supports the idea of playing two all-rounders.

“Beau has had an amazing start to his short career, with three or four match-winning knocks for us already. I definitely feel like we both can be in the team. We’re batters first and bowlers second, and we’re both happy for one to take overs off the other. We’re fine in that sense. We’ve got a great relationship as well. He’s an absolute ripper,” Green lauded fellow all-rounder.
