New Zealand have named their 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, starting on 30 September in India and Sri Lanka. Veteran captain Sophie Devine will lead the White Ferns, with experienced stars such as Suzie Bates, Maddy Green, Lea Tahuhu and Amelia Kerr expected to play key roles. Youngsters including Eden Carson and Georgia Plimmer will also be ones to watch.

Head coach Ben Sawyer praised the balance of the squad.

“A huge congratulations to all 15 players named to represent New Zealand at this World Cup,” Sawyer said. “I’d like to especially acknowledge the four players set for their first World Cup – they’ve all earned this opportunity and I’m excited to see what impact they can have on the tournament. I’m really pleased with the balance of the squad. I think we’ve got the right mix to tackle what we’ll come up against in terms of conditions and opposition.”

However, some big names have missed out. Fran Jonas, Lauren Down, Molly Penfold and Hannah Rowe were not included in the final 15. Sawyer admitted those calls were not easy.

“It’s never easy when you have multiple players pushing for the same spot and that of course made for some tough selection calls. Having to leave out the likes of Fran in favour of Flora was a tough decision,” he explained.

The White Ferns will begin their campaign against defending champions Australia on 1 October in Indore. Before that, they will play two warm-up games in Bengaluru – against India Women A on 25 September and against India Women on 27 September.
