Pakistan white ball head coach Mike Hesson has set the tone for Sunday’s high-stakes match between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, to be played at Dubai International Stadium, with his strong statement about Pakistan’s spin attack. Ahead of Pakistan’s match against Oman, Hesson praised Pakistan’s spin depth while calling Mohammad Nawaz the best spinner in the world.
When asked if Sunday’s game would be a battle of wrist spinners, with India having Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav in the ranks, Hesson said. “I don’t think you can expect that this pitch is going to spin like it did in Sharjah. Even yesterday, Kuldeep Yadav didn’t spin a huge amount. You know, whenever you got wrist spinners like that, you know it doesn’t really matter about the surface as much.”
Mike then highlighted Pakistan’s variety in spin attack. “I guess the beauty of our side is we’ve got five spinners. We’ve got Mohammed Nawaz who is the best spin bowler in the world at the moment and he’s been ranked that over the last six months since his come back in the side. We’ve had Abrar and Sufiyan do as well as he has,” Mike said.
In the ICC T20I rankings, Nawaz stands at the 30th position on the other hand Kuldeep is at 39. In terms of wickets Nawaz has 70 wickets in 71 T20I matches and Kuldeep has 73 wickets in only 41 matches.
